Three Great Tricep Exercises To Create Definition

ByMike L Vargas

Expert Author Mike L Vargas

The triceps brachii is a vastly popular muscle group. Comprised of three distinct heads (hence the tri or three prefix), they are used in a variety of everyday activities. The three heads that compose the triceps brachii are the lateral, long, and medial heads. Each of these aspects can be engaged by a multitude of tricep exercises.

The first of these tricep exercises is possibly the most popular: the tricep push-down. This exercise is performed by securing an attachment in the top location on an adjustable cable machine. This attachment can be a v-bar, a rope, or a single handed grip. Just about anything will work as long as the elbows are kept close to the body. The motion itself is fairly simple. Grab the desired device firmly and push it down toward the floor, feeling the strain on the tricep muscles. The arms should fully extend before retracting up. They should not go beyond parallel with the floor before executing another rep.

The second of these tricep exercises are called overhead extensions. This particular exercise also has the luxury of being executed in a multitude of ways. One can utilize a barbell, a dumbbell, or a set of dumbbells; it can also be performed seated or standing up. No matter the method used, the motion is the same. Take the weight and lift it directly above the head then lower the weight down, bending at the elbows, therefore allowing the weight to come down behind the head. The arms should not reach a position of being completely bent; the elbows should go slightly beyond a ninety degree bend in the elbows but not much more. Be sure to leave enough energy in the muscles to get the weight back up or work with a training partner.

The third of these tricep exercises are designated as tricep kickbacks. Unlike the other two exercises, tricep kickbacks are only performed with a single dumbbell, using one arm at a time. You will also need a flat bench to support your free arm and a knee to balance. With a dumbbell in one hand, position your knee and free hand on the bench so your back will align straight. Do not arch your back or round it. The arm with the weight should be brought to a ninety degree angle. Extend the arm straight back to target the tricep muscles. Bring the weight back toward the body but do not get into a swinging motion, maintain control of the weight at all times.

The key to creating great muscle definition is variety and proper form. Always remember, if you don't see the results you're looking for immediately, remain calm. It can take several weeks before one starts seeing results.

Natural Bodybuilding Tips for Great Results

ByMichael Nunnery

Expert Author Michael Nunnery

- Lift Big: No, I don't mean lifting to failure every single time you pickup a weight (more on that later). When I say lift big I am referring to the amount of muscles you work on any particular lift. Your workouts should be firmly based around a series of compound lifts (lifts that work at least two muscles). Doing this will give you much better results for your time spent at the gym. Squats, Bench Press, and the Shoulder Press are a much better decision than curls or triceps push downs.

- Eat Well: This one can be a bit tricky. But if you are doing this naturally then what you put in to your body is what you put out. It's obvious the making the right meal choices is crucial, but there is a lot more to it than that. You want the freshest food possible. Buy organic whenever you can. You are steering clear of "juicing", so why would you put unnecessary toxins into your system? Look at the difference between an organic chicken breast and a non-organic one. It's shocking, the foods that help you see the best results (chicken, eggs, fish, produce, and milk) are the ones that you should really try to buy organic. Sure, they may not have the shelf life that its non-organic brother has, but if you are eating like a Bodybuilder you should be then this shouldn't be an issue. This leads me to my next tip.

- Eat Often: Whoever came up with the whole 3 square meals a day was crazy. Waiting this long in between meals can actually promote weight gain in a very bad way. Blood sugar is not just something that diabetics need to be conscientious of. When looking to make changes to your body it is crucial to keep your blood sugar regulated as much as possible. It's as simple as eating often. Eating small meals throughout the day is much better than 3 large meals a day. You know that tired feeling you have when you eat too much after not eating for a long time? That is your body's natural way of balancing out your system. Your blood sugar was low so it released insulin, then you ate a bunch of food and your blood sugar was too high and you got tired. Eating small, regular meals will keep your body running at prime Bodybuilding mode.

- Be a Mental Juggernaut: This one does not get enough credit. This journey is an emotional one. Busting your butt at the gym and seeing little gains isn't easy. Seeing other people getting massive gains by doing this unnaturally can be difficult as well. The mental aspect of staying positive with yourself is crucial to seeing results. A lot of Bodybuilding experts ignore the benefits of yoga. Don't do this. Not only will it help with your flexibility, something that many bodybuilders could use more of, but it is a great meditation practice. I know many people that find it to be incredibly relaxing and I could not agree more.

Bodybuilding the natural way is a great choice. The gains might not come as quick as the alternative route, but this is a long term goal. You aren't supposed to go from a stringbean to a beefcake overnight. And trust me, in the long run your body will thank you.

If You Are in Great Shape, Consider High Intensity Training

ByRich Carroll

Expert Author Rich Carroll

High Intensity training varies from typical weight training methods in that is performed with such intensity to the point of momentary muscular failure. Although you will be required to push yourself out of your comfort zone, the payback is that you will be burning fat while sitting on the couch long after your workout, advocates say as much as nine times as much as working on a treadmill at a moderate pace. If you are willing to put your body through these high intensity workouts, you will accomplish much more fat-burning work in a fraction of the time.

Popularized by Arthur Jones, the founder of Nautilus, in the 1970s, the principles of this training is that the exercise should be brief, infrequent and intense. Due to the intensity of the workout, there is more emphasis on the recovery part of the workout than with other more traditional methods. With all high intensity workout routines, the emphasis always will be on the following:

1. High level of effort. Maximum stress will be put on the muscles, which will stimulate the body to produce an increase in muscular strength and size. As strength increases, resistance will increase progressively, always providing the muscles with adequate overload.

2. Relatively short and infrequent training. The longer the workout is, the lower the intensity must be, as the level of intensity of these workouts is such that the body cannot withstand the stress for an extended length of time. The greater length of recovery is because the muscles are extensively taxed; more time is needed to recover. The recovery period is really the time when the benefits of the workout are being reaped.

3. The cadence of the lift. The cadence of the workout is considered vital, particularly because of the intensity involved in order to prevent injury. Strict form and controlling of the lifts are always stressed, with yanking of the weight, jerking or bouncing to be strictly eliminated.

Some advocates of high intensity workouts will carry out the cadence lifting the weights in a smooth but natural pace. Some will time the lift, with the lift broken down into counts. For instance, on the lat pull down exercise, the cadence would be: Three seconds pulling down, one second pause, three seconds in raising the bar back up, finished with a one second rest at the top. This would complete one repetition.

The skeptics of high intensity workouts claim that it flies in the face of much of the conventional wisdom involving weight training. The standard of weight training has been using a weight one can lift eight to twelve times, with three reps being the accepted practice. But there is just too much evidence to support high intensity workouts to say that it has no place in muscle-building.

One last word of caution: never do workouts that exceed what you are in shape to do. High intensity workouts should only be done by those who are already in great physical shape or minimally have been exercising for at least a few months. If you haven't had a thorough physical exam recently, it is highly recommended you get one to find about any health issues before you start.

High intensity training has been proven to be probably the Best Way to Gain Muscle. For losing weight and building stamina, Intense Cardio Routines also is an excellent vehicle. Read more about it on our webpages. Rich Carroll is a writer and health advocate living in London.
